LL-37

LL-37 is a short human defense peptide studied for its ability to help skin cells cover a wound as well as for its antimicrobial and immune effects. The most informative treatment studies applied synthetic LL-37 directly to chronic ulcers. A small venous-ulcer trial found faster early wound shrinkage at its lowest tested concentration, but a larger trial found similar complete-closure estimates with LL-37 and placebo across the full study population. A separate diabetic-foot study found more new tissue filling the wound without establishing greater wound-area reduction. Together, these findings make the type of wound, formulation and definition of healing central to understanding LL-37.
