Larazotide

Larazotide is an investigational eight-amino-acid peptide studied mainly as an oral treatment for persistent symptoms of celiac disease. Its acetate form, also called AT-1001, acts on the organization of the epithelial barrier in laboratory models. Clinical studies found symptom improvements in selected treatment groups, but permeability measurements were inconclusive or negative and the phase 3 celiac-disease program was discontinued. Its history is useful for understanding the distance between changing a cell-layer barrier and establishing a dependable patient benefit. A newer Long COVID trial has completed enrollment and follow-up, with no results posted in the registry checked for this review.
