Ipamorelin

Ipamorelin is a synthetic five-residue peptide that activates the ghrelin-receptor pathway and stimulates growth hormone release. Its development connects two biological settings: pituitary hormone secretion and movement of the stomach and bowel. Early experiments established a comparatively selective hormone response in animals, followed by a human exposure study showing a discrete episode of growth hormone release. The later postoperative programme supplied a more direct clinical test: a placebo-controlled bowel-resection trial found no significant improvement in its principal meal-tolerance comparison. Together, these studies explain both the interest in ipamorelin and the gap between a measurable receptor response and a useful treatment outcome.
