Oxytocin

Oxytocin is a nine-residue hormone with established peripheral actions in uterine contraction and milk ejection. Synthetic oxytocin is also an established obstetric medicine. A separate body of research examines how administered oxytocin affects brain function, social decisions and symptoms in selected clinical populations, often through the intranasal route. That work has produced context-dependent findings: an influential trust experiment, a registered null replication, a newer positive study in selected low-trusting men and a large autism trial with no additional social-function benefit over placebo. Following the tissue, route and endpoint keeps these results connected without treating “trust hormone” as a complete biological description.
